The Arabic Jumu'ah Khutbah enjoys an important place in the teachings of Islam. Attendance and attentiveness are requirements which are emphasized in the Sunnah. This is simply because of the importance of the message.
However, in a South African context, in which the majority do not understand Arabic, the Pre-Khutbah talk has always held much significance. The talks delivered are meant to serve as the spiritual nourishment, motivation and guidance for the upcoming week and the topics chosen are relevant to the current needs of the community.
